Volunteers ease tax trauma

Article Abstract:

The AARP Tax-Aide service provides free basic tax-preparation help to 1.5 million middle- to low-income older Americans at more than 10,000 sites. Most of the volunteers working in the program are good with numbers and with the pulbic. They report that the experience is personally very rewarding.

The health-care reform issue is going through the typical stages involved in the formation of public opinion. The seven stages of public opinion are: dawning awareness, sense of urgency, discovery of choices, wishful thinking, weighing choices, intellectual stand and responsible judgment.

Congress moves to limit states' Medicaid taxes

Article Abstract:

States obtain matching Medicaid funds from the federal government by paying their share of the Medicaid bill with donations or taxes collected from health care facilities. A bill signed into law in Dec 1991 will prevent manipulation of the matching-funds system.
