The National Retired Teachers Assn, founded by Ethel Percy Andrus in 1947, is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The organization serves as a reminder to AARP members that they can continue to interact with the youth of the nation through volunteer work as tutors, mentors, or school helpers.

Dr Ethel Percy Andrus founded the AARP in 1958 with the philosophy 'To serve, not be served.' Her motto is alive today in two very important AARP programs: the AARP Tax-Aide program and the AARP Widowed Persons Service program.
