Top credit unions squeeze banks

Article Abstract:

Credit unions are able to offer free or extremely discounted accounts because they are not beholden to shareholders and are not trying to make a six-figure profit. Their fewer number of branches also helps keep costs down. The interest rates are quite a bit higher than those offered at banks, often there is only a small charge to become a member of the credit union.
