The case where GIO shareholders joined a class action filed against the company, its directors and professional advisers is discussed. The class action alleges that GIO directors and their advisers are engaged in misleading and deceptive conduct in advising shareholders not to sell their shares to AMP at the offer price.

DIY-ers prepare for the new order

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) could begin managing over 160,000 excluded superannuation funds as soon as Jul 1, 2000. After that date, a superannuation fund with fewer than 5 members will be classified either as a self-managed super fund, and managed by the ATO, or as a small super fund.
