Hedge funds have enjoyed a resurgence after the downturn overseas markets in Australia and overseas. Hedging has long been considered sound strategy, but got a bad name after some high-profile failures, notably the fall of the US investment company, Long Term Capital Management, which almost brought down international money markets. Hedge fund fees are high and should be carefully analyzed. Challenger and Ord Minnett have closed-end hedge funds. Deutsche Asset Management's Strategic Value Fund, Rothschild Australia's Total Return Fund, and Hedge Funds Australia are discussed.
