Article Abstract:

Investments in the agricultural schemes were slashed from 1.5 billion dollars to 300 million dollars that led to a tax office crackdown. Due to this, investors have shown renewed interest in such schemes as they offer tax deductions on investments and also regard them as an opportunity to invest in assets that are not correlated to the swings of the stock and bond markets.

It is analyzed that the agribusiness schemes are shaking off their dodgy reputation to become a potentially valuable addition to a well-diversified portfolio. Agribusiness schemes are risky, as the options of a limited recourse loan have closed.

Global equities had a great run in the last eight months of 2003. But Australian investors did not benefit from it except those who had the foresight to hedge their international investments before the dollar started shooting skywards.
