American artist Richard Schmid states that he paints what he sees, but his perception of what he sees is the real subject, not the thing itself. His intent is to capture the moment by painting directly from life, in one session, in the Italian art phrase 'alla prima.' Schmid writes about his experiences in his revised book 'Alla Prima: Everything I Know About Painting.'

The fashion industry is using models who are 50-plus to target a generation of middle-age or older people in ads. In the past, any model over 30 was considered retired. There are more women than men in the older age group of models who appeal to the baby boomers now growing older.

Good-bye, grass

Article Abstract:

Advice is presented on replacing grass with plants in the garden as this is kinder to the environment and easy to maintain. Americans spent US $8.5 billion on lawn-care products in 1998 which also damage the environment.
