The human growth hormone used in anti-aging programs is considered effective by some researchers. Other studies find different results. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has not approved the hormone for anti-aging use.

Four volunteers are honored with the AARP Legacy Award, which is given every other year. Irving A. Fradkin, of Minnesota, started a program that provides scholarships for students. Arlene Shipley, of Florida, started a program to help disadvantaged children. Dee Deems, of Oregon, is the unpaid director of a low income housing development program. Betty J. Frey started a literacy program in Tucson, Arizona.
