Article Abstract:

Annuities may be an option for retirees since changes in Social Security and Veterans' Affairs now require means testing of certain income streams. Investments that provide regular pension or annuity payments are examined. These investments fall into three categories: short-term asset-tested, long term asset-tested and assets test exempt. Some income streams will be assets-test exempt whenever purchased and others cannot be purchased until pension-age is reached.
