Major groups in Australia like National Australian Bank, Commonwealth Bank and John Fairfax Holdings have overlooked internal candidates for long term ascension to CEO roles signaling that expensively paid outsiders would be the next leaders. However, it is observed that companies have reached an optimal balance in 2005 where they are now much better served with internal candidates and can make better decisions on successions with a genuine choice between internal and external candidates.

Chris Corrigan, CEO, of Patrick Corporation's closure of bid for shares on April 1, 2005 has resulted in the decline of Virgin Blue shares that have decreased from $1.90 to $1.66 in June 2005, more than 12% below Chris Corrigan bid price for the airline. As doubts are raised about this decision by Patrick Corp. Patrick stock, shares fell from $6.63 in the beginning of the year 2005 to $5.16 in May 2005.
