Why loyalty counts for nothing in corporate Australia

Article Abstract:

Major groups in Australia like National Australian Bank, Commonwealth Bank and John Fairfax Holdings have overlooked internal candidates for long term ascension to CEO roles signaling that expensively paid outsiders would be the next leaders. However, it is observed that companies have reached an optimal balance in 2005 where they are now much better served with internal candidates and can make better decisions on successions with a genuine choice between internal and external candidates.

Unions are demanding a higher wage packet which will lead to inflation and higher interest rates, use of roads is lighter with people desisting from weekend getaways, and there is an increase in fuel docket redemptions.

Last year the insurance planets were aligned. Now it's back to earth

The year 2004 was a year of good growth for the insurance industry as it benefited from huge profit hikes, rising share prices, and strong premium growth. But conditions are likely to toughen in 2005, as concerns grow about a transfer of wealth from the hands of the shareholders to the hands of the customers as insurers try to gain market share.
