Sunstorms, and the eruption of gigantic sun spots that shoot clouds of charged particles towards Earth, cause magnificent displays of northern lights when they strike Earth's magnetic poles. They also, however, cause damage by harming computer ships in satellites and interrupting communications, by disrupting short-wave radio signals, and by causing power failures.
