Bruce Wasserstein was an investment banker during the 1980s and the driving force behind such mergers as Time and Warners, Kraft and Philip Morris, and Dean Witter and Morgan Stanley. Wasserstein has written a new book called "Big Deal: The Battle for Control of America's Leading Corporations." This book retraces some of the major developments since the industrial revolution. He also discusses how mergers have helped companies in the 1990s.

Takeover turmoil ahead

Article Abstract:

Economic experts feel the Australian dollar will further lose its value, the economy will go into recession, many top executives will lose their jobs, and mergers worth $70 bil will take place. Takeovers will result in local and smaller companies finding it almost impossible to compete globally. However, corporate boards will be evaluating senior management salaries.
