West Nile hits Prairies hard

Article Abstract:

The Prairies region of Western Canada has been hit unexpectedly by the West Nile virus. The province of Saskatchewan reported an additional 28 West Nile cases on September 8, 2003. The province now has a total of 97 cases, the most in Canada.

Imperial Tobacco to close plant, cut staff

Article Abstract:

Imperial Tobacco Canada Ltd. is planning to shut down a plant in Montreal, Canada. The company is also planning to lay off 44% of its workforce, as well as take a major restructuring charge for the 2003 second quarter.

Imax stock rises 8% as company retires debt

Article Abstract:

Imax Corp. saw its share value increase by 8% after the company converted senior debt notes into 2.9 million common shares. Imax converted US$22 million in notes into common shares.
