Australian Federal Police (AFP) commissioner, Mick Keelty, who was known for his integrity and truthful assessments had to face criticism for his comments regarding the bomb attacks in Madrid. He felt that the bombings were made due to Spain's position with respect to Iraq and indicated that Australia could also become the target for the terrorists due to their link with Iraq. Mick Keelty had to clarify his statements publicly in order to maintain the relations between the AFP and the government.

There are examples of many people, mostly in their middle age, providing service in Australia's fleet of F111 strike-bombers who are exposed to highly toxic chemicals used to clean and re-seal the faulty fuel tanks. All those in contact with the F111 are having miserable lives as they are experiencing serious health problems, depressions and are termed as dead servicemen.
