The new economics of immigration: affluent Americans gain; poor Americans lose

Article Abstract:

Studies on the economic affect of immigrants on US citizens show that the rich profit handsomely from the influx of immigrants, while the poor find that their wages are reduced. Fundamental changes of a rational nature, that do not prey on xenophobic paranoia are needed in the immigration laws.

The rapidly expanding population of immigrants in the US in the 1990s is in many ways similar to that which occurred during the period prior to WWI. The immigration population at the turn of the century was then fueled by Europeans, whereas today it is fueled by Latin America and Asia.
