Computers in the 1990s are recognized by their basic operating systems, unlike before when there were only Mac and IBM. Microsoft has become a Goliath of the software industry, but it's market share is being threatened by Linux, a freeware operating system. The rise in interest for other forms of operating system has resulted in many companies looking to offer other versions of their products compatible to other operating systems.
