The research on profound connection between emotions and the cardiovascular system states that it is not just sudden shocks like earthquakes that kill but evidence suggests that chronic emotional states such as stress, anxiety, hostility and depression take a far greater toll on a persons well being. The model for treating heart patients is an approach that integrates lifestyle changes with a new outlook on life, bound together by the realization that heart and mind do not work in isolation.

The poverty, including the drunkenness, the drugs, the stealing and the murders suffered by Nicaraguans in Puerto Cabezas is highlighted. The problems that the members of a boxing club in Puerto Cabezas, which gave structure to the lives of street kids, provided a sort of home for them and gave them discipline and a sense of purpose, had to face in order to restore the dilapidated club and its equipments are outlined.
