The telecommunications industry in the 21st century will be defined by the legacy of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, combinations of technology, and aggressive competitive strategies. The 1996 Act was meant to open competition and serve competitors but many powerful regional telecommunications have managed to avoid losing significant market share. Distributing Internet access over cable may radically change the market. Mergers and acquisitions among companies may enhance market share.

China after Deng
Article Abstract:
Speculation exists on China's directions in the aftermath of Deng Xiaoping's death. Deng became the nation's leader after the death of Chairman Mao Zedong, following a brief interregnum. Deng reformed the economy, supporting private enterprise and family farms. Social reforms also occurred, such as a population control policy of one child per couple. Chinese history and foreign relations are also discussed.
