U.S. networking company snaps up B.C. software firm

Article Abstract:

Redback Networks Inc., a California networking company, has bought Abatis Systems Corp. (Burnaby, B.C.) for US$676.65-million which is equivalent of giving more than $5.3-million for each of its employees. The deal puts a very high value for Abatis, which is a privately held two-year-old startup with 126 employees and no product revenue till date. The new parent company makes tools that allow network providers to offer more billing and service operations. Abatis products are designed to let carriers provide a guaranteed level of service and avoid jerky images that can affect Internet Protocol (IP).
