Television's future: Cable and video

The first cable system was created in 1949 by E.L. Parson, a radio-station owner in Astoria, Oregon. The U.S. Congress passed legislation in 1988 to permit continued transmission of programming to owners of home satellite dishes and the sales of videocassette recorders (VCRs) increased to a new level in the same year.
