The Australian government announced forthcoming changes in regulations concerning self-managed super-annuation funds (known as do-it-yourself funds), and investors have stayed away from establishing such funds until the changes are clarified. Industry observers maintain that any fears about such funds are unfounded, and that changes in regulations will be positive for most investors.

The Australian government has relaunched the Pension Bonus Scheme in 20001, but made no improvements. The schmeme offers benefits to those who chose to work on beyond retirement, but the take up is minimal as a lack of information and difficulties discourage people.

Keeping up with the Dow Jones

Article Abstract:

Australian shares are often compared unfavourably with American shares. However, when the Dow Jones is compared with the All Ords including the All Industrials Accumulation index, Australian performance is just as good.
