The History Wars authored by Stuart Macintyre, dean of arts at the University of Melbourne, Australia is an absorbing account of some of the high profile political skirmishes. The author feels that the possession of office is a very powerful weapon but the question of what has really happened in the history wars will be clearer when the advantage disappears and the understanding of the Australian history emerges from it.

Australia's John Landy and England's Roger Bannister were close competitors but a strong relationship existed between them. John Landy expresses his disappointment at losing to Roger Bannister in the Vancouver Empire Games held on August 7, 1954 but has no regrets, as Roger Bannister was the better athlete on that day.
