Stentor breakup gets under way as two units dissolved

Article Abstract:

Stentor, the alliance formed by Canada's largest telecommunications firm in 1992 to serve as a national marketing, lobbying and coordinating body, ohas undergone restructuring by eliminating two divisions. Under the reorganization plan, Stentor Resource Center Inc. and Signature Service Centre, which handle regulatory, marketing and programming jobs, will be dissolved and hand over those functions to Stentor's 11 members. Stentor, which employs 1,800 people, said 1,000 of its workers are expected to return to the companies they were conected with before joining Stentor.

PSINet plans $100-million network

Article Abstract:

PSINet Ltd of Markham, Ontario, will invest C$100 million to build a high-speed network. The planned network which will carry voice and data traffic across Canada will rival Bell Canada's Natco national network. As part of its plan, PSINet has acquired the right to use 20 lines of fiber-optic cable from Vancouver-based Starcom Service Corp for $12 million. However, PSINet's plan may be derailed because there is not fiber-optic cable for sale now to build a national network.

Chapters, CHUM team up to sell tunes on Internet

Article Abstract:

Chapters Online Inc reached a partnership agreement with raduio and television broadcaster CHUMS Ltd to market music on the Internet. The deal also calls for the re-launch of CHUM-FM's Web site, which allows people to listen to songs played by CHUM's flagship radio station and review information about the artist and album being played. Visitors can also buy compact discs from Chapters.
