Article Abstract:

The problem of rising dryland salinity is eating away at Australia's landscape and causing deterioration in the country's water supply. In November 2000, Prime Minister John Howard pledged to spend AS$1.4 billion over the next seven years to deal with the problem, but only two states so far have signed the intergovernmental cooperation agreement to address the situation.

The Australian War Memorial museum is set to open its new 11.9 million Australian dollars Anzac Hall in May 2001. The hall will house one of Australia's most significant relics, the renovated Japanese midget submarine, as well as other attractions.
