Australia has deregulated mobile phone numbers, so that a phone user can now retain his phone number even if he switches carriers. Although the changes were supposed to be made in a matter of hours, high demand for switching carriers and technical problems resulted in long delays in people's efforts to get their numbers switched to their new carrier.

The broadband Internet, which was costing high earlier has finally slashed down to the extent that even semi-serious web surfers wanted to go broadband. The credit of bringing broadband to the masses goes to Telstra that slashed its lowest retail price for fast ADSL (asymmetric digital subscriber line) broadband connections.
