By the end of year 2004 the first batch of baby boomers will head for permanent retirement and the sheer numbers may well cause economic as well as social upheavals throughout Australia because the market-oriented compulsory super annotation scheme may well be under strain. The plan as was originally envisaged saw Australians becoming self-sufficient without any need for pension but this is far removed from reality as many about to retire citizens have realized leading to a number of them running to professionals who can manage their wealth.

The Australian investment landscape is most likely to be reshaped by Chinese seeking a safe financial haven. China's rapidly growing middle class is excluded from the safety net by the country's capital controls, but once the capital controls are removed there will be an exodus of investment capital to dwarf what has happened in the past few years.
