Article Abstract:
The Canadian federal government has talked with the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) on how to persuade remote northern native bands to allow the burying of highly radioactive nuclear waste in the Canadian Shield. The government earlier rejected a recommendation by an environmental review panel to set up a new Crown corporation to handle waste disposal. It also rejected a proposed three-year delay to look for alternative sites and the process recommended by the committee in choosing and evaluating a site for the nuclear waste.

The Toronto City Council voted to approve the contract between, Rail Cycle North consortium , Gordon McGuinty, Waste Management Inc. and the Canadian National Ontario Northland Railway. The contract which has sparked much protest because of its environmental hazards involves a 20-year contract to dump the city's garbage in an abandoned open-pit mine near Kirkland Lake.

It is reported by the Canadian Institute of Health Information that during the last 3 years, Canada's health-care spending has gone up by C$15-billion. The biggest spender, on a per capita basis was Manitoba at C$2,349.00 while Nova Scotia was the least spender at C$1.814.
