The company's new accounts have soared 75% since Aug 2000, when its automated phone system added an option to hear the duck quack. The toll- free number has cost National Discount Brokers only $8,000 a day but its ability to reach 8 million people is comparable to 400 TV commercials which would have cost the company tens of millions of dollars.
