Article Abstract:
Midwest Express Airlines Inc is facing a probable pilot strike on Feb 12, 2000, if it fails to forge a contract agreement with its 330-member union. The carrier, which focuses mainly on business travelers, would stop offering around one-fourth of its airline seats at Milwaukee, WI, if the strike proceeds. The pilots are fighting for higher pay as they claim to be underpaid compared with pilots in other major airlines.

Article Abstract:
Northwest Airlines' machinists union had rejected the firm's tentative four-year contract agreement and had authorized a strike. The carrier's machinists union could not legally strike unless the National Mediation Board announces an impasse, beginning a mandatory 30-day cooling-off period. The union, which represents 27,000 mechanics and other employees, is set to resume negotiations with Northwest with a mediator present. Northwest's tentative contract, although it offered an unspecified wage raise, was rejected due to vacation, seniority and workrule modifications.
