Small software developer MicroStrategy's announcement of a deal with IBM's consulting arm caused its stock value to jump 41% to increase MicroStrategy's market value by $684.1 million. During the week of Aug 14, 2000, the stock values of software developer Kana Communications and Juno Online Services also surged after they both announced deals with IBM.

Microsoft to fall short of forecasts

Microsoft Corp has announced the possibility that it might fail to meet earnings and revenue forecasts by about 5% for both the December 2000 quarter and 12 months ending June 30, 2001. The software manufacturer cited the weak global economy, the drop in personal computer sales and soft corporate technology expenditure as reasons for the possible failure to meet the firm's financial targets.
