Rupert Murdoch's son, Lachlan, was promoted to senior executive vice-president of his father's News Corp organization during the week of Feb 15, 1999. Lachlan Murdoch will have responsibility for US print operations and will maintain his position as chairman and chief executive of News Ltd, which is the Australian and Pacific branch of Murdoch's publishing and media business. Some analysts claim Lachlan Murdoch was a capable executive at News Ltd but showed no outstanding ability before he was promoted to senior executive vice-president.

Des Randall became chief executive of Australia's biggest gambling machine maker, Aristocrat Leisure, in Jul, 1998, and since then the company's stock price has more than tripled. Randall hopes to take the company global by 2004, making half its profits in Japan, the US, and South Africa. The company started as a family business in a Sydney suburb in 1952, producing two machines a week.
