Programmers were working on a security flaw on OfficeMax's Web site after customers' personal information, including credit card numbers, were exposed to online users. The flaw has existed since the site was revamped in Jun 2000 but the company became aware of it only seven months later when a promotion drove a lot of traffic to the site. More than 1.4 million users visited the site in Jan 2001 but it could not be determined how many consumers were affected by the fault.
