Australian Prime Minister John Howard might appoint a special envoy to Iraq to participate in all major decisions on rebuilding the war-torn nation, including the trial of Saddam Hussein's captured regime members and the launch of a new currency. The prime minister is also pushing forward the idea to restructure the UN Security Council after it's failure on Iraq, and bringing in Japan, Germany, Brazil, and Indonesia as permanent non-veto members.

Australia fears that after the US defeats Iraq it will give US wheat suppliers preference in selling wheat to that country. Australia sells about 2 mil tonnes/yr of wheat to Iraq under a contract with the Iraqi Grain Board as part of the UN oil-for-food program.
