Article Abstract:

This article presents three views on the future of Australia's mobile telephone network. The director of the mobile division of Cable & Wireless Optus, a Telco commentator, and the executive director of the National Farmers Federation make such points as the need for greater investment by mobile carriers, the need to overcome problems with call quality and drop-outs, and the need for a more competitive delivery system.

Research is presented concerning self-awareness as a subset of intelligence, the characteristics that would distinguish an intelligent system such as learning independently and make inferences and abstractions therefrom, along with information on the ethical problems associated with intelligent machines.
