Morihiro became prime minister of Japan in Aug 1993, after the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and prime minister Kiichi Miyazawa lost a no-confidence vote. Morihiro, who leads the Japan New Party, must build coalitions with other parties if he is to survive in Japanese politics.
