Gas prices up 28.5% in 1999

Energy consulting company MJ Ervin and Associates of Calgary, Alberta, reports that gasoline prices increased 28.5% in Canada for 1999. The national average for regular unleaded gasoline increased from 47.5 cents per liter in Jan 1999 to 61 cents per liter in Jul 1999. One factor considered crucial in gasoline price increases is crude oil, which increased 75% in 1999 to $20.63 per barrel.

Shell says refining back to 'normal'

Calgary, Alb.-based Shell Canada Ltd. has reported that strong gasoline prices have contributed to the oil giant's profitability in the first quarter ended March 31, 2000. Shell, which earned a profit of $168 million in the first quarter, is led by president and chief executive officer Timothy Faithfull.

Drivers face higher gasoline prices

Article Abstract:

A sharp rise in wholesale prices for gasoline and tight fuel supplies resulted from the closing of refineries in North America due to a massive power failure. Six refineries in Ontario, Canada were forced to close during the blackout despite safety systems.
