Automakers, suppliers and even, the American Automobile Assn are all rushing to put navigation, emergency help, cellular phones, e-mail and Internet access systems into cars. The haste for the instalation of such devices is caused by the prediction that 50% of cars that will be purchased by 2005 in North America, Europe aand Japan will have some type of communication system.

Ford Motor Co has announced that it is not dropping any tires from its Firestone replacement list, even though the quality of some tires has been questioned by congressional investigators. The company also advised customers to continue to get Firestone Wildernes AT tires replaced. The automaker said that it has very high confidence in replacement tires ad low confidence in the Firestone tires.

General Motors Corp (GM) has established a Web site called GM BuyPower on Mar 10, 1999. The online sales site, www.gmbuypower.com, gives consumers access to inventory of vehicle dealers within the vicinity, helps set rebate agreements and secures prices quotes. Greater consumer use of the medium in making car purchases moved around GM dealers to participate in the online program.
