Ford and Chrysler have announced rebates and cheap loans that analysts interpreted a strategy to take advantage of the opportunities brought by the strike at General Motors, which has already depleted inventories at GM dealerships. Ford, which is offering a maximum of $2,000 on some models as well as cheap loan rates for buyers, denied allegations, saying the program are only extensions of incentives that has been put in place even before the strike at General Motors. Chrysler, on the other hand, raised rebates on the Dodge Stratus, Plymouth Breeze and Chrysler Cirrus sedans from $1,000 to $1,500.
