Article Abstract:
Ford Motor Company of Canada Ltd. is putting forward a plan for a dramatic restructuring of its dealership network in Canada. The proposal would include merging Lincoln-Mercury and Ford dealerships in important markets across the country. The proposal to merge Lincoln-Mercury and Ford dealerships will allow Ford to cut the number of dealers it has in the markets where it operates too many dealerships. The proposal will also allow Ford's dealership network to be a more accurate indicator of sales. A dealer familiar with the plan said that the proposal is intended to apply economies of scale to the marketplace.
