Minister of Agriculture Mark Vaile is seeking to expand his department to include all food policy, while health minister Michael Wooldridge wants to retain control of food safety. In Dec, 1998, the Australian and New Zealand Food Standards Council made labelling compulsory for genetically modified food, which some see as dangerous to Australian exports.
