Article Abstract:
Global warming is mainly caused due to the burning of fossil fuels and is predicted to push those species termed as endangered into extinction. Concerns over global warming resulted in an agreement, the Kyoto Protocol as a step to slow down the global warming trend, however the US president George W. Bush did not approve to this protocol.

The Endangered Species Act (ESA) lists the threatened and endangered species, however questions are raised whether the ESA has done enough to save struggling plants and animals. The ESA requires that listing threatened and endangered species and drawing up recovery plans to conserve them be based on 'the best available science'.

A 1962 bestseller which was about the dangers of pesticide misuse, stimulated movements such as the Clean Water Act (1977), the Clean Air Act amendments (1970) and the Superfund law (1980) to protect threatened species.
