Some of the world's biggest companies are hiring agencies to listen in to conversations of people on the Internet to see how they are being perceived by consumers. With stories, real or imagined, about ghastly service or products abundant on the Web, consumer product companies have a reason to be worried. One such company offering what can be called as 'corporate lurking' service is eWatch, which monitors 50,000 newsgroups and e-mail lists.
