Go.com aims for Net future with alliance

Go.com, Walt Disney's Internet business, is entering into a partnership agreement with an entertainment search engine, StreamSearch.com, that will allow visitors to its sites to find audio and video over the Internet, stream or download it. The alliance with StreamSearch.com will position Go.com in an age where users themselves search for files to download and play. Go.com's primary objective in teaming up with the search engine is to concentrate on entertainment and leisure.

Disney, Infoseek alliance to broaden Internet reach

Article Abstract:

Walt Disney and Infoseek plan to launch an Internet directory service, dubbed Go Network, which is expected to be operational by the end of 1998. The service would be the first for the two companies since Disney paid $70 million for a 43-percent interest in Infoseek and would also be their first offensive in competing for more Internet traffic against such players as America Online, Yahoo, Excite and Microsoft. Go Network, to be found at www.Go.com, is expected to obtain the third biggest Internet reach, following Yahoo and AOL.

Sony, Time Warner plan to buy CDnow

Article Abstract:

Time Warner and Sony Corp have announced a deal to acquire online music and video seller CDnow and combine it with their Columbia House mail-order music club. Under the deal, CDnow shareholders will get a share in the combined company for each CDnow share. The combined company will have a market capitalization of $2.6 billion, with Time Warner and Sony owning a 37% stake each. Current CDnow shareholders will own the remaining 26% stake.
