Article Abstract:

Electronics chains Best Buy and Circuit City announced that earnings for the period before the Christmas holiday season for 2000 would be lower than expected. Both cited heavy price cuts given to early holiday shoppers as the main reason for their less-than-expected performance. Best Buy said sales rose by 6% but profits declined by 27% for the quarter ending Nov 25, 2000. Similarly, Circuit City also had record sales during the Thanksgiving weekend but only after slashing prices.
