Daimler questions crash tests

DaimlerChrysler AG Pres James Holden believes that car manufacturers ought to continue informing the driving public about the safety features of a particular vehicle instead of promoting the result of government rating systems. Holden believes that such moves by carmakers often confuse rather than inform the public on a vehicle's safety record. DaimlerChrysler's Holden cited the case of its minivans, which has the best performance of all minivans in 'real world' driving.

Tensions rise as jet stays put

Article Abstract:

The customer service standards voluntarily adopted by United Air Lines Inc and other major airlines are not enough in cases such as the eight-hour delay of United's Flight 1806 at the O'Hare International Airport in Jun 2, 2000. The service standards include giving advance notice of delays or cancellations and providing enough food and water during on-board delays. However, passengers compalined that such standards were not practiced or met by United on that day.

Airlines extend review period for merger

Article Abstract:

US Airways and United Airlines have agreed to a proposal of the Justice Dept to extend the review period of their proposed merger until Apr 2, 2001, which will allow President-elect George W. Bush's administration to have the final word on the matter. Bush has nominated as attorney general John Ashcroft, who lost his re-election to the Senate. While in the Senate, Ashcroft voted against a non-binding resolution which opposed the $4.3-billion merger.
