Seventy Red Cross workers, including four Canadians, are helping to distribute food, clothing and medical care to the many injured and displaced people living in and around Grozny, Chechnya. Russian forces continue to bombard Grozny, and now control 80% of the city.

Grozny has been ravaged by the war between Chechen separatists and the Russian military, and its residents lead lives of quiet desperation. The occupied city, which once was home to 400,000 people, now houses an estimated 125,000, including some 50,000 refugees.
