Hotel revenues have suffered after businesses have scaled back on travel costs brought about by a slowing US economy. Cancelled bookings for hotel meeting space have also risen to 4% during the first quarter of 2001, according to Bjorn Hanson, hotel consultant for PriceWaterhouseCoopers. Hanson added that hotel revenue per available room would only grow by 2.8% in 2001, the smallest amount since 1992, due to a decline in business meetings.
