Car sales in Europe have remained strong while sales in Latin America and Asia have declined. Europe's 1998 car sales of 14.3 million is second only to the US' 15 million. The downside to the still-strong European market, however, include consumers who are unwilling to pay more for new cars and recent price cuts, lease deals and rebates who could result in the decline of car prices on a year-to-year basis.
