Broker slashes 12-month target for TSE 300

Levesque Beaubien Geoffrion Inc.'s concern about the weak Canadian corporate profits prompted the Montreal, Quebec-based brokerage firm to cut its 12-month forecast for the Toronto Stock Exchange 300-stock composite index from 7,750 to 6,350. In addition, the composite is likely to retest recent lows around 5,500 between the present and the end of the year, according to Levesque Beaubien strategist Martin Roberge. Roberge altered his projection because the potential of the TSE 300 earnings to increase in the next 12 months has dimmed due to the further drop of commodity prices.
